ABOUT
Kurtos Kalacs is a traditional cake in Transylvania. Baked on a tapered cylindrical spit over an open fire it spreads/ throws out a delicious smell of caramelized sugar, walnuts and cinnamon that reminds you of the most special holidays in your life. No one could resist this taste feast. Under the name of B.C. Cake, Kurtos Kalacs is meant to be famous on the Southern California/SoCal Street Food scene.
WHAT WE DID ?
Creating the logo and product identity, designing the concept for BC Cake character.
FUNCTIONALITY
When our client came to us with the brilliant idea of selling the traditional Kurtos Kalacs in the U.S and wanted us to give a new meaning to this cake’s history we said we need an even greater idea to line up with his. To be honest we were lured by the luscious smell of the burnt sugar and we came up with an image and a commercial identity/concept design proposal to represent and embrace both the name and the texture of this amazing proto-cake.
CHALLENGES
Thanks to our designers that really know how to make you feel the taste of an image, we came up with a genuinely eye candy graphic proposal: a young prehistoric man leering at the B.C. cake made into a winding lollipop he is holding in his left hand. The archaic lollipop also occurs in the center of the kaleidoscopically colorful logo. In conceiving our images we have opted for warm forms and colors meant to evoke the broiling process and the cinnamon, burned sugar and walnuts rich taste specific to the baked chimney cakes.
